Description
The right and the good are about rightness, goodness and their relation to each other. Rightness is a property of acts while goodness concerns various kinds of things. Central to rightness are prima facie duties for example the duty to keep ones promises or to refrain from harming. Ethics is closely connected to value theory which studies the nature and types of value like the contrast between intrinsic and instrumental vale. Moral psychology is a related empirical field and investigates psychological processes involved in morality such as reasoning and the formation of character.
